Prof. Adnane Abdelghani: National Institute of Applied Science and Technology, Tunis-Tunisia

Prof. Adnane Abdelghani is a Full Professor in the National Institute of Applied Science and Technology (INSAT, Tunisia). He obtained the master degrees in "Microelectronics Devices" at the INSA of Lyon in 1994, then a Ph.D from Ecole Centrale of Lyon (France) in 1997. He was a post-doc researcher in Germany in the field of biophysics (1997-2000). He obtained a Habilitation in Physics in 2004 (Tunisia) and a Habilitation in 2009 at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (France). He organized in Tunisia two International Conferences in the Field of Nanotechnology (2009 and 2012) with the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation (Germany). He is now the leader of research group working mainly on gas sensors based on Functionalized carbon nanotubes (metallic oxides, polymers) and on the development of interdigitated gold microelectrodes integrated in microfluidic cell for bacteria analysis in biologic medium. He published more than 80 papers in International Journals. He edited two chapters book in the field of sensors.

Dr. Edreese Alsharaeh: Asso. Professor of Chemistry and Head of the Chemistry Deopartment. Alfaisal University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Dr. Edreese Alsharaeh earned his B. Sc. in Chemistry in 1993 from Jordan University of Science and Technology, and his M. Sc. in Organic Chemistry on 1997 From Tennessee State University (USA). In 2004 he received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. He had intense teaching and industrial experience, as well as, a number of scholarly achievements including US patent . He have had journals published in a major referee journal. (American Chemical Society Publications) and numerous presentations in ACS Meeting nationally and regionally. He worked as Senior Scientist in The R&D Laboratory of Vintage Pharmaceutical Company. Then he accepted the position as assistant professor in chemistry at George Mason University and Gulf University for Sciences and Technology . His research interest in the general areas of Nanomaterials and polymer nanocomposites materials containing graphene nansheets and metal nanoparticles. The major goal is to gain insights as to how the properties of matter evolve as the size of a material system ranges from molecular to macroscopic dimensions.

Dr. Matteo Chiesa: Associate Professor - Mechanical Engineering / Materials Science and Engineering, Masdar Institute, UAE

Prior to joining the Masdar Institute faculty, Dr. Matteo Chiesa was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he investigated the properties of nano-engineered insulating material that may play a key role in addressing the technological challenges faced by the oil industry in enhancing oil recovery while minimizing its environmental impact. This research was performed in close collaboration with the R&D department at Aibel (former ABB Offshore System) for which he previously served as a technical advisor. He was also employed at SINTEF Petroleum and Energy, one of the largest European research institutions

Prof. Mustafa Culha: Genetics and Bioengineering Department, Yeditepe University, Turkey

Professor Mustafa Culha obtained his Ph.D. degree in chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Michael Sepaniak at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2002. Then, he joined in Prof. Vo-Dinh’s research group (Advanced Biomedical Research Group) as a post-doctoral researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (2002-2003) before joining to Schering-Plough Corporation, NJ as an investigator. In 2004, he accepted a faculty position in Genetics and Bioengineering Department of Yeditepe University, Istanbul, Turkey. He is currently involved active teaching and research there. His current research interest includes elements from chemistry, medicine, material science, photonics, and nanoscience and nanotechnology. The utility of spectroscopic techniques such as surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) to shed light onto living-nonliving interactions, development of novel detection and diagnostic tools for medical and biomedical applications, understanding nanomaterial-living interactions to develop novel approaches for delivery and therapeutic applications are ongoing research projects in his laboratories.  He and his colleagues have authored of more than 75 papers in refereed international journals, several book chapters and patents in the area of analytical and bioanalytical chemistry, and nanotechnology. He is the editor of a special issue for Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering of Journal of Nanotechnology, and NanoBio special issue of Journal of Nanoparticle Research. He is on the editorial board of Applied Spectroscopy.

Prof. Mohammad Reza Ejtehadi: Full professor at department of Physics, Sharif University of Technology, Iran

Dr Mohammad Reza Ejtehadi obtained his PhD in Physics from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, in 1998. He has worked in the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and in 2004 he joined Sharif University of Technology, where he has held a full professor position at the department of Physics since 2013. He applies statistical physics and simulations to various problems in soft matter and biological systems. He has been elected to be a board member of the Physics Society of Iran since 2009, and the member of Statistical Physics commission of International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) since 2011.

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Hussain: Asso. Professor, Integrated Nanotechnology Lab, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Hussain (PhD, University of Texas at Austin, Dec 2005) is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering in KAUST. Before joining KAUST in Aug 2009, he was Program Manager of Novel Emerging Technology Program at SEMATECH, Austin, Texas. His program was funded by DARPA NEMS, CERA and STEEP programs. A regular panelist of US NSF grants reviewing committees, Dr. Hussain is the Editor-in-Chief of Applied Nanoscience (Springer) and an IEEE Senior Member since February 2010. He has 190 research papers (including 15 invited and 11 cover articles). Prof. Hussain has given 57 invited talks and has offered 3 tutorials in international conferences. He has 15 issued and pending US patent applications. His 4 PhD graduates have landed researcher positions in UC Berkeley, UC Davis and in DOW Chemicals. His students have won numerous research awards including DOW Chemical SISCA Award 2012, World Intellectual Property Indicator 2013. Dr. Hussain is an IEEE Electron Devices Society Distinguished Lecturer and a Fellow of Institute of Nanotechnology, UK.

Dr. Sachin Khapli: Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, NY University Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dr. Sachin Khapli’s research focuses on the synthesis of nanoscale building blocks and their self-assembly to create materials with novel mechanical and opto-electronic properties. During his graduate studies at Rice University, he worked on the development of Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization for the synthesis of functional biomaterials. This was followed by a post-doctoral training at the Center for Bio-Active Systems, NYU-Poly, where he developed novel methodologies to create stimuli-responsive microcapsules from biological building blocks. Sachin holds a B. S. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and Ph.D. from Rice University, Houston.

Dr. Antonios Kelarakis: Senior Researcher in the Centre for Materials Science, University of Central Lancashire, U.K.

Dr Antonios Kelarakis is a Senior Researcher in the Centre for Materials Science, University of Central Lancashire, U.K. where he leads the laboratory of Polymers and Nanomaterials. Before undertaking his current position he gained extensive experience in both academic research and commercial development working in world-leading institutions in Europe and U.S.A. His research interests include colloids, biomaterials, polymer based nanocomposites and smart coatings. His investigations have been systematically directed to the design, synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials for energy, safety and sustainability. Central to his work is the advancement of green approaches for the preparation of nanomaterials for environmentally conscious applications. He holds an international patent and has authored 65 scientific articles in high impact journals, yielding an h-index of 25. He serves as a member of the editorial board for several peer-review journals and has delivered more than 30 invited talks in universities, research institutions and international conferences.

Prof. Maurizio Prato: Director of the Carbon Nanotechnology Research Group and Professor at University of Trieste, Italy

Prof Maurizio Prato is a Full professor at University of Trieste since 2000. He got his PhD degree from University of Padova- Italy, followed by post- doctoral positions in Texas Tech University- USA, University College Dublin-Ireland, Yale University- USA and University of California-USA. He’s a member of the International Advisory Board of the following Journals published by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK): Chemical Communications, 1997; Journal of Materials Chemistry, 1994-2002; Chairman of the Editorial Board, Journal of Materials Chemistry, 2003-Present. He was awarded the: Federchimica Prize (1995), National Prize for research, Italian Chemical Society (2002), González Ciamician, Spanish Chemical Society (2008), ERC- Advanced Investigator Grant Award (2008) and Medaglia Angelo Mangini (2009).

Prof. Qamar Rahman: Dean Research (Science and Technology) at Amity University, India

Professor Qamar Rahman has done her MSc and PhD from St. Johns College Agra. She is Dean Research (Science and Technology) at Amity University. Former Deputy Director Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow and Area leader of Inhalation Toxicology and Human Risk Assessment. She is Adjunct Professor at Hamdard University. Visiting Professor at Rostock University. She is Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, and Society of Toxicology of India. Her expertise is in the field of the toxicity of Fibers, Particles and Nanoparticles, and known Nationally and Internationally. She has served at many Universities in USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Germany. Professor Rahman was recently appointed by the Ministry of Minorities Government of India as member of Central Wakf Council on Education..
In September 2009 she was awarded Honorary Doctorate from Rostock University Germany. In the 600 years of the University she is the 1st Indian who got this honor and she shared this platform with Noble laureates’ like Einstein.

Dr. Khaled Saoud: Assistant Professor of physics, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, Doha

Dr. Khaled saoud obtained his BS from Yarmouk University and his Master’s degree in applied physics from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then completed his PhD in 2005 in chemical physics at the chemistry and Physics departments, Virginia Commonwealth University working on developing nanomaterials for different applications such as catalysis. He held many industrial positions at major American companies such as Philip Morris USA, Intel Corporation, and Nova Measuring Instruments Inc. He has recently initiated a research program in nanocatalysis, nanotextile and nanomaterials for the construction and development of new catalytic membranes for energy, water treatment, and environmental applications. He has been working in the field of nanotechnology since 1998. He published over 20 research papers in the field of nanotechnology and holds two US patents. He holds many industrial positions in American companies. He participated in many conferences and holds for using nanomaterials in different applications. Recently, he was invited by Arab League as an expert to start the nanotechnology initiative in the Arab world.

Prof. Vasco Teixeira: Associate Professor in Materials Physics, University of Minho, Portugal

Prof. Vasco Teixeira has a PhD degree from University of Minho, Braga-Portugal in Applied Physics. He’s Professor, Entrepreneur and Researcher in the field of nanotechnology, nanomaterials, surface engineering, smart materials, layered nanocomposite functional thin films and nanostructured surfaces. He is Editor-in-chief of Journal of Nano Research, JNanoR ((Honorary Editor is Nobel Prize Sir Harry Kroto). He is author or co-author of more than 110 international scientific papers (ISI), 3 ISI journal volumes, 5 book chapters, 3 awarded industry projects in national industrial innovation contests and he gave 25 invited lectures at international conferences. He is Vice-President of the SOPORVAC-Portuguese Vacuum Society. He is member of the Executive Committee of the SNN-Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. He is the Chair for the European Advisory Scientific Committee of the SNN. He is member of the Executive Council (Councillor-2004-2007) and 2007-2010 Triennium of IUVSTA-International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique, and Applications. He is member of Directive Council of the Portuguese Materials Society. He is Coordinator of TTES-Surface Engineering and Heat Treatment Division of the SPM-Portuguese Materials Society and Technical Advisory Member of Tribological and Decorative Coatings of the SVC-American Society of Vacuum Coaters.

Dr. Bingqing Wei: Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware, USA

Dr. Bingqing Wei (B. Q. Wei) received his Bachelor’s degree (1987), M.S (1989), and Ph.D. (1992) in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He is currently a Tenured Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware, USA. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Center for Computation & Technology at Louisiana State University from 2003 to 2007. He was a Research Scientist at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Rensselaer Nanotechnology Center from 2000 to 2003. Dr. Wei was a visiting scientist at Max-Planck Institut für Metallforschung, Stuttgart, Germany in 1998 and 1999. From 1992 to 2001, he was a faculty member at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
